'Bear Porn' is often bandied around by those with a panglossian
view of the economy and are perhaps beholden to groupthink. The term is used to
more as a non sequitur than anything, conversely it is used to describe the
opinions of those less bullish than their beliefs. Those of you who have read
my previous posts will know that I am less than sanguine when it comes to
Australia’s economic outlook in the short to medium term. Despite the few
resources outside the mainstream media, which have been discussing this matter
for longer than I care to note. I feel there is a need for a terse delivery of
this topic.
Although there are only so many hours in a day, and men and women
run successful countries and enterprises in that time, the hoi polloi often
don’t have the time to wade in and research these issues. The reasons for this
could be manifold but perhaps it is because we are not the patricians we aspire
to be and are often time poor. There are many good presentations uploaded to
the “internetz” as the kids like to say however nothing seems more pervasive
than pop culture. This is particularly evident in the film and music industry and
its proliferation throughout social media. As I don’t hold a book face account I
have collated some of these examples here for your perusal.
The Fall of the Iron Reich I (h/t “Saint Matthew”)
This is a summary of the perilous situation the Western Australian
government now finds itself in regarding the collapse of iron ore prices and
the uncanny opinions of the state Premier and Fortescue Metals Group owner
Andrew Forest on the proposition of production caps signalling potential cartel
activity. Don’t get me wrong Glencore’s Ivan Glassenberg did exactly this
with their thermal coal production stating “we don’t want to be the ones
forcing the price down with oversupply”. Hmmm it’s a funny free market world we
live in today.
The Fall of the Iron Reich II
Hitler discovers the limits of Australia’s economy (h/t “Gunnamatta”)
This is a federal spin on the fiscal projections and the upcoming
budget. The subtitles can be a bit long but hey that’s what the pause button is
for right?
Fall of the Iron Reich (CB)
Tony Abbott’s Downfall (h/t Chris Becker)
Another federal spin on the economy with a
more Abbott centric spin.Tony Abbott’s Downfall (h/t Chris Becker)
Depreston (Courtney Barnett) Lyrics
This is a song about a young couple searching to buy a house in the
Melbourne suburb of Preston and deals with the prohibitive conditions they find
themselves in.
The Lucky Country (The Basics) Lyrics
This is quoted by the band as a “rock’n’roll rant” against “the
age of entitlement” and “the Abbott-Shorten-Palmer-Milne circus”.
